Still Working?

If you have decided not to retire yet, and you are covered by your employer's health benefits, you may still apply for Medicare Part A (hospital coverage). Part A may help pay for care not covered by your group plan.

Since you have to pay for Part B (medical coverage, such as doctor visits), you'll want to sign up for it only if your group plan's benefits are insufficient. Be sure to find out the details of your plan before making any decisions. If you don't sign up for Part B when you're first eligible, you may have to pay a late enrollment penalty for as long as you have Medicare. Your monthly premium for Part B may go up 10% for each full 12-month period that you could have had Part B, but didn't sign up for it.
