5 Reasons to Start a Fall Exercise Routine

The most popular time to start an exercise routine seems to be in the spring. This is when you may be thinking toward summer, swimsuits and shorts. However, the spring and summer months aren't the only time to get started. There really is no wrong time of year to begin getting fit!

If summer came and went and you never hit the gym or that treadmill in the spare room, don't worry. Fall is here, and it's a perfect time to start an exercise routine. Here are five reasons why you should get going:

1. It's Finally Cooling Off!

Summer is great and all, but it's also hot. If you found yourself running back into the air conditioned house instead of going for walks or hitting the trails, it's time to venture out again. Fall weather means cooler mornings and evenings, even if it's still a bit too warm in the afternoon. It's often some of the best weather for hiking, biking and taking brisk walks.

2. Help Stave Off Seasonal Depression

If you are one of the millions of people who struggled with seasonal affective disorder (SAD) or you just find your energy is low in the winter months, get a jump on prevention by starting a regular exercise routine.

Research shows that exercise is an effective way to address depression and alleviate symptoms. By beginning a consistent fitness practice now, you may find that you feel better and have more energy when the gloomy days of winter comes.

3. Avoid Holiday Weight Gain

The holiday eating season starts at Halloween and continues through to the new year. No wonder so many people list weight loss as one of their New Year's resolutions. Between Halloween candy, Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas parties, it's not uncommon to gain ten or more pounds between October and January.

Start an exercise routine now and make healthy eating choices, you will knock that resolution out of the park before January even begins!

4. Don't Wait Till The Last Minute For Your Summer Body

One of the problems with the springtime fitness rush to look good in those shorts and sleeveless shirts is that you just don't have enough time to get where you want to be. April is not the time to get toned, lose weight and firm those abs and glutes if you are planning to hit the beach in May or June. Start now and you will be ready for Summer.

5. Outdoor Exercise Is Lovely In The Fall

Aside from the cooler temperatures, the Autumn months are just pretty. The lighting is soft and golden, the leaves are changing colors and it's a gorgeous time to enjoy the beauty and bounty of nature. Get out there and enjoy it!

If you want to get in shape, there is no better time than the present. Start walking, riding your bike, take a yoga class or enlist the help of a personal trainer. You'll look great in your new jeans and be ready for those summer clothes when the time comes.
