Medicare Enrollment Countdown - 3 months to go, 3 things you need to know.
With only three more months to go before the Medicare enrollment begins October 15th, it’s important you are prepared when it comes to research, deadlines and requirements. So as you plan to enroll for Medicare, you want to do all you can to ensure you make the most informed decision right for you.
We understand that the Medicare enrollment process can be an intimidating and confusing process, but there are resources and tips to help guide you along the way. Here are the top three things you should know before October 15th:
1. Understand the benefits and how they relate to what you need most. Whether you are new to Medicare enrollment or a seasoned veteran, it is imperative that you review the plans available to you in detail. Many plans change from year to year, so don’t assume that you’ll be getting the same coverage as you did the previous year. Review the annual out-of-pocket maximums, understand the extra benefits that may be included (vision, hearing, dental, etc.), and make sure they align with what you need most in a plan.
2. Review past premiums. Zero or low-premium plans can be tempting, but they often don’t give you a complete picture of what they cover. Do your due diligence when researching options and add up all the possible costs including premiums, co-pays, prescriptions and deductibles so that you are 100% clear on what you might be spending.
3. Check reputation. Reading what others say about health plans can speak volumes. Read about the user experience when it comes to customer service and services offered. Find out how long the health plan has been around and if they seem reputable. You want a health plan you can trust that will be available, approachable and take your health seriously. Ask friends, go to Facebook, Yelp, and Google to hear from others.
