Five Tips for Looking as Young as You Feel
As sure as the sun will rise and set each day, so too will we continue to age. The ticking away of time is a constant, and the inevitable progression of our aging process is, too. Most of us, though, don’t feel as old as we may look. Mentally we are still young and vibrant young adults. So why can’t we feel that way, too?
No, we can’t take twenty years off of our lives (nor would we honestly really want to), but with a few key lifestyle changes, we can certainly feel twenty years younger. Here are our top five tips to helping you feel as vibrant and energetic as you’d like.
1.Sleep, sleep, sleep. We are busy people. We have spouses, families, friends and engagements. As we get older, it is important to stay social and busy, but it is equally as vital to get enough sleep. So many of us are deprived of adequate sleep, and it shows both on our bodies and in our energy. Get to bed an hour earlier each night and see how much more revived you feel in the morning.
2.Hydrate often. The bulk of our body weight is water. Nearly all of our internal body functions require water. We need to replenish our water regularly, but most of us fall short in doing this, making us sluggish and tired throughout the day. Make a habit of taking a reusable water bottle with you on-the-go so you don’t have any excuses not to drink up.
3.Eat fruits and veggies first. As we age, we need more revitalizing nutrients to keep us feeling our best. Try front-loading your meals and snacks with the healthy stuff first--- like fruits and vegetables. This will not only help you meet adequate nutrition requirements, but the fiber will help keep you full longer.
4.Keep moving. We all know that exercise is essential for our bodies to stay fit and strong. But it is a key factor in keeping our minds sharp and our mental disposition calm and positive. Grab a friend and take a brisk walk out in the fresh air. Sign up for a dance class with your spouse. There are so many ways to get moving that are fun and will make you feel great.
5.Be grateful. Positivity is an essential piece in keeping you youthful. This doesn’t mean that your life has to be perfect. In fact, things will go wrong all the time. But if you focus on what is good and right in your life, your mind will naturally feel more relaxed and inclined to get involved in more youthful activities. After all, at the end of the day, we will remember the things and people who we care about and who have made us happy.
